We have received your payment for the concealed carry class, thank you. We will begin promptly at 8:00 am upstairs at the Sitka Sportsman’s Association (SSA). We will take a break for lunch from about 12:30-1:30, and be done by 5:30. Sunday will be a half day from 12:30-4:30. For class on Saturday, please bring a black pen, your Alaska state ID or driver’s license, and the holster you plan on using on Sunday. Please DO NOT bring your handgun or ammunition to the classroom on Saturday. At the bottom of this page is a flyer with additional information about what to bring, as well as another one with reasons to share with your friends about why this class is a good idea, even though it’s not required under Alaska law. If you do not have an Alaska state ID card or driver’s license, please let me know.
If you do not already have one, you will need to purchase an annual shooters card from the SSA. The normal cost is $50, but they have graciously offered my students a trial card for only $25. This is what allows us to use the range on Sunday for the shooting portion and gives you range access for a year; the cost is to help the range pay for its insurance. You can pay by cash, check, or credit card; just bring the money with you to the class on Sunday and we’ll get it taken care of then. There is no need to go pay for one in advance.
Once you have completed the class, you will have up to one year to apply for a concealed carry permit through the state should you choose to get one. The state fee for your permit is $87, which you will send to the state when you send in your application. I will be bringing in the applications to hand out, but if you have questions about the permit, most of your answers can be found at the state concealed handgun website here:

As a federally licensed firearms dealer, I also have several pistols and revolvers available for purchase. If you are interested in purchasing, please let me know ASAP, as they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. I also have holsters, electronic hearing protection, and other accessories available for sale.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. You can use the contact information on this page or call me at (907) 623-0908.
Finally, one of the test items is being able to list from memory the four firearms safety rules, so I’m going to give them to you here to start studying. We will explain them in great detail in class, but it will be easier for you if you start memorizing them now.
1) All guns are always loaded.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have decided to fire.
4) Be sure of the target, as well as the surroundings and beyond.
See you on Saturday!
Chad
